Welcome to where Switzerland is at its most accurate, welcome to the Federal Office of Metrology (METAS). METAS performs its duties in the service of society and economy. An economy can only exist if there is confidence in measurement quantities, measuring instruments, and the meausrement results obtained using these instruments. As METAS calibration certificates are recognised internationally, trade barriers for Swiss manufacturers of measuring equipment are removed.

We can only perform these duties if we have a well-trained and motivated staff at our disposal. This puts us into the position to provide internationally recognised measurement standards which are, as a rule, more accurate by at least the factor of 10 than the measuring device to be calibrated, that is to say, to be compared with measurement standards.
